How to Lie Down and Get Up Without Hurting Your Back:
There are ways to lie down that are much easier on your back than others. Typically, when your back hurts, you let yourself down, leaning back ever so slowly, using your arms. This is terrible for your back, even when your back is fine.
Instead, lie on your side, bend the top knee and roll over onto your back.
To get up, roll back onto your side using your foot to help you roll over. Then push up using your arms.
Repeating this over and over will help to make it a habit. Next time the phone rings in the middle of the night, you will roll over to get up instead of jumping up and potentially hurting your back. These small motions can have a huge impact.
